Aviation is an important mode of travel for many in Anchorage, Alaska, and people all across the state. That’s why a recent fatal plane crash in western Alaska caught the attention of so many, including the personal injury attorneys here at Kelley & Canterbury LLC.
According to a recent Anchorage Daily News report, witness saw the Cessna 208 flying low over the St. Mary’s airport, then out of view.
People were so concerned by the plane’s low altitude and misdirection that they attempted to radio the pilot. There was no response from the single-engine passenger plane.
This is the third mishap in 2013 for Hageland Aviation Services, which is owned by Era Alaska. The pilot and all three passengers were killed, including a 5-month-old boy.
The plane was headed to Mountain Village, Alaska, but the worsening weather did not allow the pilot to continue on, which diverted the plane to St. Mary’s. After the crash, villagers and Alaska State Troopers flocked to the wreckage, despite freezing rain and a low cloud ceiling.
Specific cause for the plane crash is still under investigation.
The crash reminds us all of the danger all motor vehicles present, whether on the ground or water or in the air, especially in the unpredictable weather conditions of Alaska.
If you have been injured or involved in a plane crash (or any other type of aviation or motor vehicle accident), contact a Alaska personal injury attorney today. Often, a crash may be caused by the negligence of another or the fault of the plane or automobile manufacturer.
