Want to strap on the skates, but don’t have time to join a real team? Itching to get on the ice, but don’t want to break the bank? Or, are you just looking to get some exercise in Anchorage?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, the Anchorage personal injury attorneys at Kelley & Canterbury LLC encourage you to head on over to the Subway Sports Centre at O’Malley Sports Complex for “pond hockey.”
Pond hockey sessions are organized by USA Hockey and provide an opportunity for anyone meeting the age requirements to play pick-up hockey. During these sessions, players typically divide into two teams and play a scrimmage game if there are enough players.
As a warning, there are no referees present at pond hockey, but the participating players usually do a good job of supervising themselves. The skill levels of the players vary widely from the sessions—anywhere from novice to advanced—so don’t hesitate to jump into the mix.
There is a maximum of 20 skaters and three goalies allowed per session, so get there early. Once that max is reached, the session is closed. Full hockey equipment and helmet are required, with a half-shield attached to the helmet.
Upcoming pond hockey sessions this month include:
- May 17, 10 p.m., adult (18+)
- May 18, 7 p.m., adult (18+)
- May 19, noon
- May 20, 9:30 p.m., adult (18+)
